On November 8th 2013,Typhoon Haiyan,(known as Yolanda in the Philippines)swept through the Eastern Visayas area of the Philippines causing catastrophic damage with a confirmed death toll of 6,340 and 1,061 missing. One of the worst affected regions was Tacloban City with some of the low lying Eastern areas completely washed away. Typhoon Haiyan was the strongest ever recorded at landfall with winds measured at 315 km/h (195 mph) and gusts up to 378 km/h (235 mph).
